I hope this article helps you stay on your fitness path.
My puppy is keeping me really busy. She needed eye surgery so I'm on 24-7 duty to keep her from ripping out her stitches. Here's a fun movie I made of her dealing with her cone.

Dogs Get You Off The Couch And On Your Feet!
I've been very busy with my doggies. I got a new pup. Housebreaking is always tons of fun lol. She's doing great now though. I hope she keeps it up! My other dogs are old and not well socialized. I've had to work really hard at getting them to even be with my new puppy.
The good news is that I've lost a couple of pounds due to training these doggies. I don't need to lose weight but I love to eat so when I do lose a few pounds I get to eat more to gain the weight back! That always makes me smile:)
I've said before and will say again, "dogs keep or get you in shape!". My other dogs are getting really old so they weren't making me get off the computer and on my feet often enough. This new pup has me up and run about most of the day.
It's tough to find time to post as often as I was but I try to keep up. Don't give up on me. I'll get back to normal soon. I have several blogs to keep up. I love to write but I knew I needed to get up more so I got my new pup. She needed a home and I need the exercise.
There are lots of dogs that need homes. You might think about getting one. Dogs can always be trained. Often really great dogs are left at the pound because people lack the time or do not take the time to learn how to train their dog. I admit to being a dog freak. I can't help it. They make me smile...

Do You Want To Double Your Chances Of Losing Weight?
Do you want to double your weight loss?
According to a recent study those who pick up a pen and keep track of what they eat get big rewards! They are twice as successful at losing weight.
The study showed a couple of reasons why.
Most people did not want to write down the extra piece of chicken they wanted or the candy bar they knew they shouldn't have.
A lot of people had no idea how much they did unconscious eating. Once they were aware of it, they were able to stop that habit.
The third reason was that often people are not aware of how many calories are in the foods they're eating.
A great website for keeping track of your calories is
http://hp2010.nhlbihin.net/menuplanner/menu.cgi
Some people say,"it's too burdensome to keep a food diary".
My answer to that is... instead of spending the time over eating use it keeping track of what you do eat.
I love to eat and have to keep myself busy often to avoid nervous eating.
You don't have to keep a diary forever. Most people eat about 30 or 40 things so once you get familiar with the calories in those foods you'll know how many calories you're eating.
Measuring the portions of food you eat is extremely helpful. Knowing what a normal serving size is important. With all the excess food restaurants feed us it's easy to lose track of what a true portion is.
I always use the fist method. A serving size is generally the size of your fist. Nuts are what you can hold in the center of your palm because they are so concentrated in their calories.
Just some food for thought!
Try using a food diary for a few weeks and see what a differnce it makes in your weight. I think you'll be happily surprised.

The Weight Loss Maze
I just got through writing another podcast which I will be taping soon and will pass on to you but I just had to blog about the challenge many face with weight control.
In researching this topic I was reminded just how crazy it is out there. If you only eat protein you will get thin. If you stop eating past 4 pm the weight will melt off. If you eat just healthy food you don't have to count calories. Just exercise and the weight will come off. Don't exercise because that make you gain weight. Wow...my head was spinning.
Why common sense has been thrown to the wind amazes me. There truly is no secret or magic potion to weight control. The body isn't that complicated. Calories in versis calories used adds up to the end product. A healthy body or an over weight body.
There are certain things like alcohol that are big culprits because alcohol is not used by the body but stored as fat. Junk food is laden with calories and most of it empty calories so your body doesn't get the nutrients it needs even if your calories of it are reasonable. You'll be thin but unhealthy.
It's really confusing out there. The best choice is to stay away from extremes. Anything that's extreme is generally extremely dangerous.
I understand the desperation that can come with being unhappy with your weight and not having the know how to deal with it. I always suggest going to your doctor for help. Going to a good licensed nutritionist is the best answer!
Unfortunately some people don't have insurance. That is getting to be a better situation but some are still without medical help. If that's the case then make sure you get your advise from professionals. Make sure the website or blog you're reading was written by a certified professional. If they don't have their credentials listed it generally means they don't have any. Contact them if need be and ask what their background is before following any of their advise.
Make sure the books you read are written by medical professionals. I know even that can require common sense thinking. Dr. Atkins started with a radical approach to weight control but if you follow the adjustments in that diet it did sway toward more balanced eating.
I believe and was taught that this is the best website for weight loss information

The 80% Rule
Hope your holiday is going well. Here's a tip to help you get through all the temptations:
Follow the 80% rule. If you eat healthy 80% of the time you'll win your goal of a healthy weight. If you try to be perfect more times then not, it back fires on you.
Remember portions. The size of your fist is a portion most of the time. Nuts and seeds it's the base of the palm not a hand full. Nuts and seeds are great for you but they can pack on the pounds if you go crazy with them.
Keep those tips in mind and have a great holiday!
Feel free to ask questions and leave comments. I would love to hear from you!

Calorie Needs Change As You Age
As we age our bodies generally require less calories. If you're extremely active this may not be the case but for the majority of us it is.
I just turned 59 and I'm recovering from a spinal surgery, two strikes against me as for burning calories. I'm so glad I weigh myself on a regular basis or I'd be very large right now. I have gained some weight but am still at a healthy weight due to my caution.
I'll be honest. I miss my food! I'm still eating all I like but in much smaller quantities. I see how one can gain lots of weight and think "I'm not over eating!"
I'm finding other things to do instead of eating. I try not to eat inbetween my 4 small meals per day. I have to measure my food because I've been able to eat large servings due to all the exercise I use to do.
I love food but I want to enjoy my life so compromise is needed. It's hard but I'm learning to be okay with it.
If you have this issue you are not alone. Most of us have to stay on top of the changes our bodies make as we age or if life takes another turn in some manner that slows you down.
Be good to yourself and stay at a healthy weight or get to a healthy weight. In the long run you'll be glad you made the sacrifices needed to obtain that.
