"Laughter Yoga" May Make You Giggle Your Way To Health

This is fun stuff. Laughing for health. How much better does it get than that! Laughing yoga may tickle your funny bone and improve your health.

Here are some yoga "laughing" exercises you can do.

1) Sit on the either the floor or a chair. Allow your shoulders to soften then inhale slowly and deeply through your nose while turning your head to look over your right shoulder. Exhale slowly and completely as you return your head to center while say,"Ha,ha, ha." Then do the same thing to the left side.

2) Inhale to the count of 4 as you lift your arms
slightly away from your sides and carefully tilt your head back. Hold for 2 seconds. Then exhale as you say,"ha,ha,ha" while you slowly bring your head toward your chest, your arms back to your sides and allow your shoulders to round.

3) Bring your hands to your left side, fingers spread wide. Begin to clap hands in a 1-2,1-2-3 pattern as you slowly bring your hands across your body to your right side and continue to go side to side. After a few rounds add "ho,ho,ha,ha,ha with the clapping pattern for a few rounds. Then repeat #2 exercise.

4) Lie on you back on the floor with your knees bent, feet flat on the floor. Close your eyes. Allow your mouth to form a soft smile and then simulate a quiet giggle. Rest and then repeat it a few times. The goal is to learn to allow a deep laugh to occur.

Women Need To Defend Themselves Differently Than Men

I love sharing information about health and fitness. I also love to teach self defense so I'm going to share this video with you and tell you about my new website www.selfdefenseforgirls.com

It's related information. Defending yourself is part of being healthy. One of the most important things you need to do to be able to defend yourself is to be in good physical condition so you can run away or be able to fight if you need to.

I've done a series of videos which are on my website and on youtube. This one is reactions to bear hugs. I'll share the others too. Let me know if you have any questions. My website gives you really good information. I highly suggest visiting it.

Laughing Your Way To Health

Laugh your way to health!

The American Council on Exercise sends it's members a wonderful publication called "fitness matters". It's a great magazine.

One of the articles this month shares the impact laughter has on our health. It's huge!

Laughter diminishes the secretion of cortisol and epinephrine (the stress hormones),while enhancing immune reactivity.

It helps your heart by reducing stress on your arteries and increasing your blood flow which lowers blood pressure and cholesterol build-up and reduces your heart rate so it lessens the chance of having a heart attack.

When you laugh, your diaphragm moves up and down and it directly massages your internal organs, such as your lungs and stomach, and helps with digestion and constipation.

A deep laugh tones your abdominals, your facial muscles, lifts depression and helps you sleep better.

20 seconds of a good belly laugh does amazing things for your health.

That's good news!

We all need to laugh more especially with all of the stress we're feeling due to the economy.

So watch a funny movie or go out to lunch with friends that easily tickle your funny bone!

Stick With Licensed Professionals For Advise About Your Diet Needs

I had to post about this. Why do people go to fitness trainers for diets? Why not go to a nutritionist?

I see so many people offering diets, nutrition supplements and such who have no training what so ever. They seem to be making money doing this. I have to shake my head and bite my lip.

Sure you can lose weight doing what some of them suggest if you're a healthy person with no allergies or health issues but if you get unbalanced nutritional advise you may lose weight and gain health issues.

What you eat is so individualized. It takes a lot of training to become a nutritionist. Most doctors don't create their own diets for people unless they also have special training in nutrition. They know how specialized nutritional advise is. I just don't get it...

The fees that some of these untrained people charge is not much less and even more sometimes than what a licensed nutritionist would charge.

Getting a recipe for chili on line from an untrained cook makes sense. If it doesn't taste good you can just throw it out but getting a whole diet plan from an untrained person can add up to health problems and those take time to get rid of if they even can be over come.

In my training it was made very clear that we have to stay within our expertise. We refer to nutritionists and limit what nutritional advise we give. Thank goodness we have boards and licensing to make sure those who work with our bodies have training.

www.mypyramid.gov  offers all the general advise you need. Specific advise should come from a licensed professional.

Sticking with the specialists is very important.

Here Comes The After Wedding Let Down What Should I Do?

After big events it's completely normal to feel a "let down". Some depression and feeling a bit lost is common and normal.

So much of your time was spent planning and anticipating the event, it becomes a major part of your life.  When it's all over sometimes a let down comes.

My son just got married. It was so exciting and full of surprises, problems and solutions. Now the last of my company left and I'm here staring at the mess. I feel a bit lost. I want to eat chocolate and sleep.

I'm so glad I know this time generally comes. It allows me to pamper myself, not expect myself to clean up all the mess in one day and to rest. In the past I got mad at myself for being such a baby which didn't help at all.

I now know to keep my day simple. Do what I can, rest and then start to look at my to do list and slowly get back to my normal life. I avoid eating too much chocolate (maybe just a little lol) but instead to focus on rest. I don't plunge into the next big project but allow myself to decompress.

I also remind myself during the big event that a let down may come so I'm prepared to take another day off, get some movies, have friends I can talk to and to include gentle exercise.

I don't try to do a tough workout for a couple days. It is important to get some exercise because exercise increases your feel good hormones but really intense workouts can add to the stress so I avoid them for a couple of days. When I'm ready a good sweat gets things going again.

If you've just completed a big event and find yourself a bit lost try to give yourself a break and know that it's common and normal to feel the let down. It will pass. Avoid overeating and such to get through them.  Those choices prolong the let down. Allow a few tears if need be and know it's normal. That alone helps the let down melt away.

Hold Onto The Beautiful Moments

Last night I watched my new daughter-in-law look into my sons eyes with love that I dreamed of for him since he was first put in my arms.

The love of a mother is so deep. Knowing that your son's wife loves him as deeply as you do is a gift beyond any. I watched my son marry his new wife last night. It was a moment stamped in my heart, a moment that I will reach for when I think the world is unkind or too tough.

The room was filled with friends as well as family members from around the globe. Multiple cultures, customs and beliefs all joined hands and brought this couple into the special union. It was amazing to see. It brought me hope not only for my son but for people. Every one let go and accepted the differences without malice.

When moments like this come into your life I truly believe you should hold on to them like the most precious jewel. They can get you through some of your darkest moments. They bring light into your life. You can draw on them for strength when you feel weak or forgotten. No one can take away your beautiful moments unless you let them.

I hope you have beautiful moments in your life and that you cling to them as I will cling to this moment that is carved in my heart forever...

Pressure Eating Is No Fun!

It's so easy to go to food when you're under pressure. My son is getting married this weekend. I'm having tons of people staying at my house. I'm running around trying to pull loose ends together and food is looking like it could be my best friend LOL.

I'm having to use all the skills I've shared with you on my podcast and in this blog right now.

I just cut my soon to be daughter in laws hair in front of lots of people. I do better when I have time to play and look at hair when I cut peoples hair. I don't know if I did a good job so food is looking like my best friend.

I have to keep telling myself that pressure eating is no fun! There's never enough food to make me feel better once I start going to it for comfort.

Breathing and finding relaxing things to do if only for a few minutes is getting me through this. I'm glad I have this blog to vent on. It's a real crazy mix of people who will be staying with me. Love them all but ugggg!

Are you under pressure right now? Don't go to the refrigerator. Find a relaxing moment. Find a friend to vent with. Heck you can vent right here.

"Pressure eating is no fun" is my chant right now. Care to join in?
